What is Lorolingo?
A free app that helps children learn their first words in 15 languages, with pictures, real voices, games and a sticker book.
Who is it for?
Everyone! It's made for children aged about 2 to 8, and it's especially useful for bilingual and multilingual families. Grown-ups learning a language often find it handy too.
How can my child use it?
There are three ways to play: Explore (tap pictures to hear the words), Flashcards (say the word, then check) and Listen & find (hear a word and find the picture). Children can play on their own, or you can play together: ask them about the pictures in the language and watch them learn!
Which languages are there?
15 so far, all European for now. I'd like to add more in future, so if you'd like a particular language, please let me know.
Why is there no sound for some languages?
The voices come from your device or browser, not from Lorolingo. Most devices have voices for most of the languages, but Irish, for example, usually only works in Microsoft Edge. You can often add voices in your device's text-to-speech settings, or try another browser.
Can I choose easier or harder words?
Yes: in the menu, open Word level and choose Little ones (2–4), Growing (5–7) or Big kids (8+, every word).
Can I stop my child leaving the game?
Turn on Child lock in the menu. It hides the buttons at the top until a grown-up holds the parrot for a moment.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Add Lorolingo to your home screen and it works without the internet. On iPhone and iPad, this also keeps the sticker book safe.
Is it really free? What about our data?
Yes, it's completely free, with no ads and no accounts. Nothing about you or your child leaves your device; the Privacy page has the details.
I have an idea, or I've found a mistake
Wonderful, I'd love to hear it! New languages, topics, features, translation fixes or bugs: email hellolorolingo@gmail.com. If you're a native speaker of one of the languages and spot something odd, I'd be especially grateful.
How can I support Lorolingo?
Tap the ❤️ to buy me a coffee, or use Share Lorolingo in the menu to tell another family about it. Both really help keep it going!
